OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The flash mob that greeted a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints upon his return home held a surprise more shocking than the mob itself: a marriage proposal.
Austin Spitler returned from a two-year mission recently to find a flash mob greeting him at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. His girlfriend, Brittany Jones, stood in the middle, singing along to "Marry You" by Bruno Mars.
"I've waited two long years for you. I'd wait an eternity to have you as my husband. Will you marry me?" Jones said.
Spitler said yes and went to his backpack, where he found the engagement ring he had stored there. "I love you. Will you marry me?" he said.
Jones told KFOR the flash mob, which included dozens of people, took about three weeks to put together.
"I wanted to see his face. I wanted to see him. I haven't seen him for two years so it's still very very exciting," she said.
Spitler said the proposal worked out perfectly and that the two years he spent on his mission made him realize how much he loved Jones.
