ST. GEORGE — A man is dead and a woman is injured after being hit by a car Monday while walking down a sidewalk in St. George.

Police responded to a traffic accident Monday shortly after 9 a.m. on Dixie Drive just north of Sunbrook Drive. A vehicle headed southbound on Dixie Drive had rear-ended another southbound vehicle, causing the front vehicle to veer off the right side of the roadway.

The vehicle struck David and Leslee Henson, a husband and wife who were walking on the sidewalk at the time, according to the St. George Police Department.

David Henson, 56, was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center via helicopter and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Leslee Henson, also 56, was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, and was later transferred to Salt Lake City for treatment.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

An accident reconstruction team is investigating the incident. Following the investigation, the case will be given to the county attorney, who will determine whether charges will be filed.
