SALT LAKE CITY — Baltimore has had a good run of success in the sports world recently: Its football team just won the Super Bowl, the Orioles made the playoffs for the first time since 1997 and Michael Phelps set Olympic history.

The Orioles are in Florida for spring training, looking to improve on last year's success while integrating new players.

But, with the warm weather, what better way to build unity with the city of Baltimore than by inviting Phelps down for a little batting practice?

The swimmer didn't hit as many home runs as he was hoping, but was able to make contact on a few pitches.

The city of Baltimore now hopes that its baseball team can make as big of a splash in the regular season as Phelps did in the pool during the London Olympics.

33-year anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice"

There isn't anything special about a 33rd anniversary that I can think of. But, when the event you are commemorating is the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team defeating the Soviet Union in the greatest upset in sports history, it is an event worth celebrating.

The team recently made a brief venture back into the news cycle when Mike Eruzione, who scored the winning goal against the Soviet's, put his jersey, stick and other paraphernalia up for auction.

"I thought this would be a great little nest egg for them (his three children) for their future with their kids," Eruzione said. He had been keeping the memorabilia in a hockey bag in his attic, and decided the equipment would be better enjoyed by someone else.

We all can enjoy the memory of that game. To relive the moment that prompted the iconic line, "Do you believe in miracles?" watch the video and feel the excitement.

Cheerleader wins senior night

Ashlee Arnau is a two-sport athlete at William Carey University, competing on the soccer team while also cheering on her peers as a member of the cheerleading team.

Yesterday was senior night for the basketball team, but Arnau made the shot of the night.

The cheerleader had been attempting a cartwheel shot since Christmas, and she finally was able to sink the shot in the last game of the season.

Make it, take home a car

Arnau wasn't the only person to knock down a half-court shot last night.

In a game where the Clippers were being solidly beaten by the San Antonio Spurs, the biggest excitement for the home fans came during a promotional event.

A fan sank a half-court heave to win a Dodge Charger during the Spurs-Clippers game Thursday night.

Which is more impressive? The cartwheel shot on senior night, or the middle-aged man in a Jamal Crawford jersey winning a muscle car?
