LOGAN — A Providence man was arrested after calls threatening schools and businesses in Colorado and Utah were traced to his address.

Kirby Alan Hivner, 22, was arrested Friday and booked into Cache County Jail for investigation of threats of terrorism, a third-degree felony.

Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Brian Locke said Colorado police were contacted by a Colorado resident who had received a call Wednesday from an unknown number, warning there would be a shooting at "Mountain Creek High School," or another school or business in Utah.

The call was traced to the home where Hivner lives with family, Locke said. Phone records indicate Hivner made a number of strange calls Wednesday, including to areas outside the U.S. in Vietnam, though no other calls appear to have contained threats.

Locke said Hivner does not own any firearms, and an investigation indicated he didn't have the ability or the means to carry out any kind of armed attack.
