SALT LAKE CITY — A 14-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with the shooting of another 14-year-old girl near a park last week.
The teen was arrested Sunday and booked into juvenile detention for investigation of attempted murder and inciting a riot, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Shawn Josephson. Her name has not been released.
On Dec. 4, two groups were engaged in a fight at Jackson Park, 762 W. 500 North, just after 8:30 p.m. As one group was driving away, Josephson said investigators believe a teen girl fired several rounds out of the window, striking a 14-year-old girl in the leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
Detectives were not discussing Monday a possible motive for the fight, but Josephson said the people involved are believed to have gang affiliations. Prosecutors will decide whether to charge the alleged shooter as an adult.
Investigators continued looking Monday for additional witnesses. Anyone with information can call police at 801-799-3000.
