SANDY — A flash mob of about 50 special education students from South Valley School showed off some fierce choreography Wednesday, dancing to the music of the boy band One Direction — the song was "What Makes You Beautiful."

The kids were dancing to prove to themselves that they are capable of doing anything they put their minds to.

"I like it a lot; it was really fun," said Debbie Guerrero, who participated. "I would recommend it to anyone."

"There's absolutely nothing better than coming out here tonight, dancing your butts off and having a blast, having fun," added Sam Jones.

Each move helps these students learn confidence that will help them find a job and make decisions. Today, the syncopated choreography should help them apply those life lessons.

South Valley educators feel this flash mob dance project will give their students a chance to shine.

"They, like anybody else, want to be a part of the community and society to fit in and to feel accomplished, and have that self-esteem," said Lindsay Bailey, the South Valley School dance choreographer.

Since this is their first gig, they now have the confidence to do it again — maybe in the spring, they say.

"They may just show up," Bailey said. "Be ready and watching."
