SALT LAKE CITY — The Twilight saga ends this weekend as the release of the final film in the franchise, "Breaking Dawn Part 2," is released on Friday.

In honor of the debut of the new film we thought we'd post the most appropriate Top 5 we could think of: The top 5 movie franchises that have run their course.

#poll

With an impressive average of 38-percent on Rotten Tomatoes the Transformers franchise has progressively proved that we, as a movie going society, are pretty dull.

I say that with trepidation considering there are obviously a lot of you out there who like these movies. Considering they've made more than $2.5 billion worldwide.

So, if me saying these movies are awful make me a pretentious moviegoer, then I have never been so proud to be a pretentious moviegoer.

However, I have seen all of them and my morbid curiosity will likely rent the fourth one when it gets to Red Box. Have mercy on my soul movie gods.

Regardless of my secret shame, it's time for Michael Bay to leave the once beloved action figures alone and move onto destroying another childhood memory, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Alvin and the Chipmunks

I say this as a father pleading with Hollywood, please end this torture of making me go to another Chipmunks movie.

These movies make a killing at the box office because our precious children do not realize how awful they are. Bless their little hearts. But as an adult who has to sit through them it is daunting.

Let's hope that if they insist on continuing to take this cash cow to the slaughter that they at least go the way of "Air Bud" and punch out six a year that go straight to DVD.

Scary Movie

Were you aware that they are making a "Scary movie 5"? Wait, let me back up, did you know they made a "Scary Movie 4"?

The Scary Movie franchise officially jumped the shark when the end credits of "Scary Movie" rolled. There are obviously people all over who love these movies or else they wouldn't keep making them, but I have yet to encounter one of these people.

The newest entry in the franchise, due out next year, stars Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan. Yes, that read Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan.

You know what, let's just move on.

Final Destination

I'm not going to write too much on this one. The first "Final Destination" was kind of a new and fun idea. Kind of. Then 2 came along, followed by 3, 4 and 5 and destroyed any credibility that once existed.

The main reason these movies need to stop being made is because I'm tired of seeing a bunch of different and elaborate ways that teenagers are going to be killed only to narrowly escape and then get hit by a truck or clumsily fall out of a window.

Pirates of The Caribbean

I'm guessing most of you are emailing me death threats before even reading my explanation and that's fine. To each his own, right?

The first Pirates was an absolute blast. It was filled with adventure, intrigue, humor and Captain Jack. To this day "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" is one of the greatest things Jerry Bruckheimer has ever produced.

In an effort to keep such an amazing franchise alive the filmmakers decided to make "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." What a nightmare.

Dead man's Chest was a two-and-a-half-hour trailer for At World's End and that movie struggled to ever reach a coherent thought.

A few years later Disney took another crack at it with "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and while the film was a mite better than Word's End it paled in comparison to the original, which ultimately made it a bit of a waste.

The reason I say Pirates needs to go away is because each film seems to take away from the magic the first one created.

So there it is, five film franchises that need to end. Now that you've read the article it's time for you to tear me apart like I know so many of you will.

Tell me why I am insane and have no taste in movies for saying these franchises need to end. Let me know which ones you think should call it quits. And if you happen to agree with me, you can let me know about that too.
