PLEASANT GROVE — Anglers of all ages are taking home quite a catch in Pleasant Grove after wildlife officials temporarily raised the catch limit.
The reason behind the raise? Wildlife officials are hoping people will go out and catch the fish in the Manila Creek Park Pond, before the city drains it for maintenance and repairs on Oct. 19. They have raised the catch limit from two to eight fish from the pond before they drain it.
"Just come on out," said Jay Dee Nielsen. "The weather's supposed to be great this next week. So come on out and enjoy it, enjoy the fishing.
Russell Miner and his boys are taking advantage of the higher fish limit.
We came yesterday and caught about 12 fish so we thought let's go try it again. Today we caught 15 or 16 and we've only been here maybe an hour. >
Since the Division of Wildlife Resources stocked the pond with about 7,000 fish over the summer, and another 1,000 were just added a couple weeks ago, there are plenty of trout for everyone.
"We don't want them to die (in the pond)," Nielsen said. "We want people to take them home and enjoy them."
