OREM — An Orem man charged with raping a woman he met through an LDS dating website will face a judge next month, but some are asking why the suspect wasn't arrested and put in jail once the charges were filed.

Provo Police Sgt. Brandon Post says in this case, Claudiu Bora, 33, has known for several weeks he was being investigated in the rape of a woman he met on ldssingles.com. Post said Bora showed no signs of being a flight risk and has no criminal history, so the decision was made to release him, pending a court hearing before a judge.

"Several factors go into if there's going to be a bail hearing or not," Post said. "Does the person have a history, are they a flight risk? It's all going to be case specific."

Post said in cases without a criminal history, the suspect often bails out before the officer finishes writing the police report.

"Our goal — our view — is to look at the end process, and to make sure the end goal, which is the truth come out, and if a person is guilty of a crime, that they are held accountable for those crimes," Post said.

Charging documents state Bora and the woman arranged to meet at the Provo LDS Temple before going on a hike in Rock Canyon. Upon their return, the woman was putting her purse in the back of her SUV when Bora allegedly forced her into the backseat and raped her, according to the documents.

Bora will make his first appearance before a judge on Nov. 1.
