MADRID (AP) — The Spanish sailing federation says two of its sailors and a coach have been assaulted at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro while training for the Olympics.
The federation says in a statement that Fernando Echavarri, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the tornado class, Tara Pacheco, a former two-time world champion in the 470 class, and coach Santi Lopez-Vazquez were "assaulted by five people armed with pistols."
It adds that the three Spaniards were not hurt during the assault that took place "in the middle of the street while they were going to have breakfast."
