MILAN (AP) — Chievo Verona maintained its impressive start to the season by beating Pescara 2-0 to move to within two points of Serie A leader Juventus on Saturday.

Substitute Riccardo Meggiorini broke the deadlock in the 76th minute, latching onto Valter Birsa's ball over the top, rounding Pescara goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri, and slotting it into the empty net.

Meggiorini had a hand in the second, too, winning back possession to spark a counterattack which saw Lucas Castro set up Roberto Inglese five minutes from time.

Chievo moved to provisional fourth, level on points with third-placed Lazio, which won 3-0 at Udinese.

All the teams around them in the table play on Sunday, with Juventus visiting Empoli, while second-place Napoli travels to Atalanta.

Ciro Immobile, who was called up to the Italy squad earlier in the day for the World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Macedonia, scored in each half. Keita Balde Diao netted Lazio's second, nine minutes after the interval.

Udinese, which was booed off the pitch, remained on seven points, one more than Pescara.
