CARSON, Calif. (AP) — LA Galaxy forward Gyasi Zardes will miss the rest of the MLS regular season with a broken foot.

The team announced the U.S. national team forward's injury Tuesday.

Zardes is expected to have surgery Wednesday. He also won't be able to play for the American team in upcoming World Cup qualifiers, but Galaxy coach Bruce Arena hopes he could be available for the MLS Cup playoffs.

Zardes was hurt during the Galaxy's scoreless draw with Vancouver last weekend on a tackle by Kendall Waston.

The fourth-place Galaxy (9-4-13) also will be without midfielder Steven Gerrard and defender Jelle Van Damme for at least two weeks.

Arena says Gerrard has a strained hamstring, while Van Damme revealed on Twitter that he has a sprained knee ligament.
