SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Patrol has started buying back rifle components called bump stocks from the public.
The first such buybacks were held on Sunday.
The devices will soon be illegal at the state and federal level. This week, Gov. Jay Inslee approved a $150 buy-back program.
KREM-TV says the federal government banned the devices in 2018 and the state created the buy-back program at the same time.
The buybacks will be held on March 17-18 and March 24-25 at all WSP offices.
Each person who brings in a bump stock will get a voucher for $150.
Officials said there is a limit of five bump stocks per individual.
