LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — A county sheriff in north-central Idaho has apologized for a meme his wife posted to his Facebook page mocking women who don't immediately report sexual assault.
The Lewiston Tribune reports Nez Perce County Sheriff Joe Rodriguez made the apology on Saturday, saying his wife Julie Rodriguez didn't realize she wasn't on her own Facebook account when she posted the image of a very old woman with a caption that read in part, "... groped in 1886 and I waited till now to tell about it."
Rodriguez said he immediately deleted the post once he learned about it, and called the meme "problematic."
Rodriguez says he doesn't take sexual assault lightly and says his department takes all reports of sexual assault seriously.
