COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say a man is dead after being shot by an armed security guard inside a Coeur d'Alene credit union, in what appears to have been a botched robbery attempt.
The Coeur d'Alene Police Department says a man in dark clothing and a full-face-shield motorcycle helmet walked into Global Credit Union's Coeur d'Alene branch about 1 p.m. Saturday, waving a gun.
The credit union says the man opened fire upon entering the bank.
Police say a security guard inside the bank "fired at the suspect, hitting him at least once."
Police say the man attempted to flee from the bank but "succumbed to his injuries, collapsing inside the building."
Authorities say officers attempted lifesaving measures. However, the man was declared dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
