BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Medicaid expansion proposal has received enough signatures and will be on the November ballot.
Idaho Secretary of State Lawerence Denney on Tuesday said more than 56,000 valid signatures have been counted.
The signatures include at least 6 percent of the registered voters in at least 18 of Idaho's 35 legislative districts.
The Medicaid expansion plan if passed would provide medical coverage to an estimated 62,000 low-income people in Idaho.
Under the Affordable Care Act, the U.S. government pays at least 90 percent of the cost of expanding Medicaid while states pay the rest.
But Idaho lawmakers have refused to consider the idea while also failing to come up with a solution to provide health coverage for Idahoans who don't qualify for Medicaid or earn too much for a subsidy.
