MONTICELLO, San Juan County — A woman died late Sunday evening after crashing head-on into another car on U.S. Highway 191 in southeastern Utah, authorities said.
The crash took place just before 10 p.m. on Highway 191 about 6 miles north of Monticello, according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The woman, identified by UHP on Tuesday as Zuhra Samadi, 26, of Salt Lake City, was driving north in a Chevrolet Tahoe behind a Ford F-350 that was hauling a 25-foot trailer, UHP said.
Samadi tried to pass the F-350 in a no-passing zone when she collided head-on with a Dodge Ram that was heading south, according to the news release.
The impact pushed the Tahoe into the F-350’s trailer, and the Tahoe, F-350 and trailer veered off the shoulder on the northbound side of the road. The Ram came to a stop in the southbound lanes, the release said.
Samadi suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, according to UHP.
A 2-year-old passenger in the Tahoe suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to a local hospital.
A driver and passenger in the Ram were also taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. All five occupants of the F-350 were treated for injuries and released at the crash scene.
Investigators worked for about four hours through the night to process the crash scene, and crews planned to return Monday to investigate further, UHP said. No additional information about the crash was immediately available.
