HURRICANE — A man drowned on Tuesday evening after he went fishing along the shore at Quail Creek State Park, authorities said.
The man was identified as 24-year-old Zachary Mansfield, according to a news release from Utah State Parks.
Mansfield went shore fishing about 7:30 p.m. with a friend, but was alone when he drowned, officials said. The friend got worried after several hours of being unable to contact Mansfield, and then contacted emergency officials, the release states.
About 11:30 p.m., Hurricane City Police Department and Utah State Parks officials found Mansfield face-down in shallow water near the shore, the release states. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The water was between 2-4 feet deep, according to Quail Creek State Park manager Candace Smith.
A Washington County Search and Rescue crew also assisted with the search for Mansfield.
