Louisville, Kansas in action

UNDATED (AP) — After solidifying its hold on the top spot in the Associated Press college basketball poll, Louisville is back in action tonight against Texas Tech in the Jimmy V Classic at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Second-ranked Kansas plays Milwaukee, and number-four Maryland is at Penn State. The Terrapins are down one spot in the new poll even though they continue to pile up wins.

In tonight’s only matchup of two ranked teams, number-11 Baylor meets 18th-ranked Butler.

NBA-SCHEDULE

Heat, Sixers hope to stay unbeaten at home

MIAMI (AP) — The Miami Heat can extend an unbeaten home record tonight against the Atlanta Hawks. The Heat are 10-and-0 at home and 17-and-6 overall, while the Hawks come into the game with a 6-and-17 mark.

Also trying to remain unbeaten at home tonight are the Philadelphia 76ers, winners of all 12 home games so far this season. They host the Denver Nuggets, who’ve lost their last two games.

The Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets have each lost two in a row heading into tonight’s matchup in Charlotte.

The Portland Trail Blazers have lost three out of their last four. They host the Knicks, who open a four-game road trip after losing their first game under interim coach Mike Miller.

NHL-SCHEDULE

Canadiens skate at Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens have won two out of three after breaking an eight-game losing streak. They hope to continue that success tonight in Pittsburgh against the Penguins.

After being shut out Sunday night for the first time since last February, the Vegas Golden Knights hope to resume scoring when they host the Chicago Black Hawks.

The Winnipeg Jets are 5-1-and-1 in their last seven games heading into tonight’s game at home against the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit has tied its second-longest losing streak at 11 games.

The Calgary Flames have won five in a row under interim coach Geoff Ward, and look to continue that streak tonight at Arizona.

In tonight's other NHL contests, Florida's two teams meet as the Panthers host the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Edmonton Oilers wrap up a four-game homestand when they host Carolina. The Vancouver Canucks are at home against Toronto. The New York Rangers play the second game of a four-game road trip in Los Angeles. The Anaheim Ducks are at Minnesota, while the San Jose Sharks conclude a road trip in Nashville. The New Jersey Devils are in Dallas, and it's St. Louis at Buffalo.
