Mercury win 7th straight, 89-72 over Sun

PHOENIX (AP) — Diana Taurasi had 19 points, DeWanna Bonner added 15 and the Phoenix Mercury beat the Connecticut Sun 89-72 on Saturday night to extend their winning streak to seven games.

The Mercury (9-3) have the longest active streak in the WNBA and matched the 1998 and 2014 teams for the best start in franchise history.

The Mercury pulled away in the second quarter to lead 43-21 at the half and had their largest lead at 54-27. The Sun cut the deficit to 71-58 on Morgan Tuck's 3 with 5:17 left but couldn't get within single digits.

Sancho Lyttle added 14 points for Phoenix, Brittney Griner had 12, Camille Little 11.

Tuck led the Sun (7-4) with 20 points, Brionna Jones had a career-high 17, and Jasmine Thomas added 10.

The Sun have lost three straight. They entered the game averaging a league-best 92.4 points and their 72 points were a season low. Chiney Ogwumike (knee) and Alyssa Thomas (shoulder) were out of the game.
