Jazz Notes

Jeremiah Jensen, Cleon Wall and Spencer Hall all grew up loving the Utah Jazz, even during the dark days of Tyrone Corbin. Alex Kirry didn't grow up watching John Stockton and Karl Malone, but he grew to respect the mailman and crew after he moved to Utah for college. What started as basketball fandom has grown into a business for these guys as they cover hoops and other sports as a career. Jeremiah works on SportsBeat for KSL TV. Cleon spent 17 years covering sports and hosting shows for KSL Newsradio. Spencer launched Salt City Hoops and Alex is the host of Cougar Sports Saturday on KSL. Each week, Jazz Notes will keep you up to date on the latest Jazz news, hottest dunks by Donovan Mitchell, speculation and side stories. From how the team performed, trade rumors to the defensive prow

  • Mark Eaton and chemistry
Ricky Rubio was adamant that team chemistry is the most important part of an NBA team after he wasn't traded. But how far can chemistry take this current Jazz squad? Cleon Wall poses that question to former Jazzman Mark Eaton who also espouses his feelings on Rubio, the team's camaraderie and if the team should take a chance on a talented player with a bit of an edge (like Jimmy Butler).

  • Trade Deadline Fallout
Emotions have been all over the place after the Utah Jazz didn't make a trade deadline deal. Jeremiah Jensen and Cleon Wall quickly give their quick thoughts before delving into how this could affect Ricky Rubio, Derrick Favors and Dante Exum. Let's just say Ricky wasn't too happy having his name in trade talks. And is it an accomplishment if the Jazz make the 2nd round of the playoffs after doing it the past 2 seasons?

  • Trade talk with Ryan McDonald
The Utah Jazz 116-88 victory over the Phoenix Sun was not inspiring to watch, so Cleon Wall grabbed Ryan McDonald of the Deseret News to talk about why the Jazz have not made a trade yet even with all the ongoing chatter. Cleon then focuses on one player as the guy that probably should go and it should surprise no one.

  • Buy, sell or how bout them Jazz?
Alex Kirry is fully on the Utah Jazz bandwagon after Donovan Mitchell turned himself into All-Star in the last 14 games. Cleon Wall then poses the question of who is better than the Jazz? • Nuggets reporter/analyst Chris Dempsey
What a fun game (unless you are a Nuggets fan) for the Utah Jazz in their win over Denver. Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and Nikola Jokic played like All-Stars. Before the game, Cleon Wall talked with Nuggets reporter/analyst Chris Dempsey about how Denver got to be the 2nd best team in the Western Conference, the potential budding rivalry between the teams and their young stars, plus we play what if...

  • No defense, no win
The Jazz's 3rd quarter defense doomed them in their 109-104 home loss to Portland. Jeremiah Jensen and Cleon Wall bemoan the fact that Utah could not contain Jusuf Nurkic on the pick and roll. So will that spell doom part 2 against Denver? At least Ricky Rubio played well in his return.

  • Rudy is your father...or daddy!
Jeremiah Jensen can't say enough about how much of an impact Rudy Gobert is on the Jazz after the most recent win over the Clippers. He really has no comparison. But will he be an All-Star? Cleon Wall wonders if not making the all-offensive game would really be a bad thing for Rudy or the Jazz. Plus, it's Star Wars night against the Cavs. The two guys bust out their galactic Jazz comparisons. And it's not a trap.

  • Should the Jazz trade for more offensive firepower?
Spencer Hall returns with Cleon Wall and Cleon makes Spencer pick out the topics for today. The guys talk about whether Utah has enough information to make Donovan Mitchell the lead guard going forward, if they should trade for more offensive firepower and if they are happy with Utah's modest winning streak. And would you trade Ben Simmons for Donovan Mitchell?

  • Donovan Dominates and PF problems
Jeremiah Jensen and Cleon Wall were impressed with how Donovan Mitchell played in the Jazz's win over Orlando. He's looking relaxed and ready on and off the court. But how often will Jazz fans see that Donovan? And after another poor start, the guys discuss whether they Jazz should shuffle the lineup to start someone new at power forward. Cleon wonders if they should trade for a new number 4. Jeremiah believes Utah does need more offensive firepower the 2nd half of the season.

  • What a comeback!
The Jazz looked lethargic against Orlando in the first half. Then Utah used a little defensive magic to beat the Magic 106-93. Quin Snyder praised his team and Donovan Mitchell looked like a superhero who could do anything in this game. Cleon Wall discusses it all plus speaks with KSL.com Jazz reporter Ryan Miller about Mitchell becoming a point guard, Dante Exum figuring it out and burgers.

  • New Year...New Jazz?
The Utah Jazz lost their first game of 2019, but the soft part of their schedule is coming up. Alex Kirry is tired of wondering when the Jazz are going to make a turnaround. Cleon Wall thinks we already know all about this team; they're good (and dangerous) but not great. The guys don't think Jazz fans should hang their head after the 1st ballots of All-Star votes were counted. Alex and Cleon also give out New Year's resolutions for members of the Jazz, even if the Jazz haven't made any yet.

  • Turning a corner?
Did the Utah Jazz really turn a corner in their 108-103 win over the Golden State Warriors? The shooting wasn't great, but the defense was tremendous. Jeremiah Jensen and Cleon Wall recap the big win and if the team's offense is catching up with the defense. The two hosts also dole out Christmas wishes to members of the Utah Jazz.

  • Getting better? And no way on Jabari!
Yes, the Utah Jazz have lost two games in a row including a heart breaker in Houston. But Cleon Wall and Jeremiah Jensen see that this team is starting to look better as a team on defense. Jeremiah just hopes that it's not too late with how good the rest of the Western Conference is right now. The guys also discuss why Jabari Parker is not coming to the Jazz and Cleon throws out a trade idea that Laker or Jazz fans would never approve.

  • Go Small and/or go to Mexico
The Utah Jazz won another game with Jae Crowder starting at power forward and Cleon Wall wants him to start all or at least most of the time. Alex Kirry wants Cleon to slow down on his supposed hot take. Alex and Cleon also discuss the team's trip to Mexico, patience with Donovan Mitchell and if Gail Miller would swat a player on the head.
