THE FARM — Long, dark winters are a reality for most of Norway.

Human Scandinavians have long-held traditions for coping with these winters. One of the more practical, survival techniques includes boarding up their livestock in a barn to help them survive harsh weather.

Being cooped up for the winter is a small price to pay for staying warm and fed, but it doesn’t mean it’s easy. The amazing reward for Norweigan cows is that there comes a day when they get to leave the barn for the first time in months.

The reaction of the cows every year is so incredible, that at least one farm holds an event, inviting the public to their farm to watch their cows literally frolic in the fields they haven’t seen in a coon’s age.

In the video, the farmhands anticipate the urgent rush of the cows and fairly leap out of the way after they open the barn doors. And indeed, the cows rush out with such vim and vigor, it would be easy for a human to get bowled over in the hubbub.

The cows appear to be dancing with joy as they run and kick with glee and rub their faces and bodies on the new spring grass.

The scene is so joyful, that it’s an immediate mood booster for all of us. So if you feel like you’re melting this summer, maybe watching these cows live their best life will remind you of the relief you first felt when spring first spread its wings.
