THE DOJO — With so much negativity being broadcast in the world, it feels like we need more moments of encouragement. Who doesn’t love to see an underdog story or an inspiring video that will make you happy — maybe even tear up?

This is one of those stories.

With all the talk we hear about bullying among kids, it’s nice to see moments when kids encourage each other. And in this video, one boy’s struggle to break a board goes from tears of sadness to tears of joy.

In the video, we see young Stephen trying to break a board with his foot. After a first attempt, Stephen falls down and you can tell he is discouraged. His sensei encourages him to hit the board hard.

“Yes, you can do it,” the sensei tells the boy.

Stephen tries again, and once again the attempt to break the board fails.

Tears flow as Stephen begins to think he’s not capable of breaking the board. His sensei continues to encourage him. He tries again and fails again.

Suddenly, a chant breaks out.

“Stephen! Stephen! Stephen!” the other kids in the dojo begin to chant. Parents begin to clap and encourage young Stephen that he can do it.

“You can do anything!” one person can be heard telling the boy.

The sensei adjusts Stephen's stance and has him try it one more time.

“You gotta hit it hard,” the sensei says.

With the support of his peers, his sensei and each person in the dojo, Stephen does what was just a few seconds ago he thought to be impossible: he breaks the board with his foot.

The room breaks out in celebration and the other kids in the dojo mob Stephen. Parents in the background cheer and clap, and the sensei lets out a big, “Yeah!”

It’s OK if you shed a tear watching this video. Moments like this remind us that despite all of the negativity we hear and see in the world, there is still good out there and we should continue to encourage one another just like the kids and adults encouraged young Stephen.

Way to go, Stephen! Thanks to everyone who was a part of this moment for the good vibes and happiness we got by watching this video.
