TORONTO — Gatorade gave NHL pros the opportunity to play with a Canadian sledge hockey team and the professionals discovered their skills aren’t as sharp as they might think.
Sledge hockey, known as sled hockey in the U.S., was developed in the 1960s at a Swedish rehabilitation center as a way to help people with disabilities who can’t skate play hockey, according to usahockey.com.
Players sit in little sleds that have two ice blades running along the bottom. The players then use two hockey sticks with metal picks on them to help move around on the ice, according to usahockey.com.
The commercial shows the sledge hockey players as they're surprised with their favorite pro players like Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby.
"They're going to slow us all down," a sledge hockey player said to laughter as the NHL players suited up.
