ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — A new exhibition at the University of Michigan highlights the beauty and importance of failure.
"Less Than Perfect" is on view until Jan. 8 at the Ann Arbor school's Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. Spanning more than 2,000 years, the featured objects celebrate failure and the lessons it teaches.
The exhibition is curated by Professor Carla Sinopoli, an archaeologist. She says in a statement: "Some of my most exciting discoveries have been of objects that failed in production," such as stone carvings that cracked or ceramic vessels that warped.
She says failures of past civilizations give researchers insight on production processes and standards as well as ancient technologies and traditions.
The exhibition features objects from the Kelsey Museum, the Museum of Art and the Museum of Anthropological Archaeology.
