LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Latest on the murder trial of Michael Jace, who played a police officer on the television series "The Shield" (all times local):

1:15 p.m.

A transcript of a police interview shows that an actor who played a police officer on television said he only intended to shoot his wife in the leg in what turned out to be a deadly attack.

The transcript of Michael Jace's lengthy conversation with Los Angeles homicide detectives was released Thursday after audio of the interview was played for jurors.

The transcript notes that he was crying and said he didn't intend to kill his wife of nine years, April Jace.

It's the only time the panel will hear from the actor, who says he won't testify in his own defense.

In the transcript, Jace also tells detectives he wanted his wife to feel pain and intended to shoot her in the leg. However evidence shows she was shot three times — once in the back and twice in the legs.

The 53-year-old Jace played a police officer on the TV series "The Shield" and appeared in several films.

Closing arguments are expected Friday. His attorneys say he should be convicted of voluntary manslaughter, not murder.

An actor who played a police officer on television says he will not testify in his own defense in a murder case filed after he fatally shot his wife two years ago.

Michael Jace told a judge Thursday that he would not take the stand.

Prosecutors are seeking a first-degree murder conviction against Jace, who has acknowledged shooting his wife of nine years in their Los Angeles home. Prosecutors have ended their case.

Jace's lawyers contend the actor did not plan to kill his wife and shot her in the heat of passion after she told him she wanted a divorce.
