HALA — While we are biding our time until we can watch the conclusion of the current Avengers storyline in “Avengers: Endgame” in April, we can whet our appetites with “Captain Marvel.”

The latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon is now in theaters. To know if we liked the movie or not you can check out the full KSL.com review here.

This article is to educate you on what you can expect to see in the film when it comes to content. We are here to help parents make a decision about whether they’re going to let their kids head to theaters to see “Captain Marvel” when they inevitably ask.

As always, I am not making any suggestion about what is or is not appropriate for you or your kids. Only you can make that decision, but I’m here to let you know what’s in the film so you can have some information before making that decision.

Here’s what parents need to know about “Captain Marvel”:

Sexuality

This section is pretty much the same as every other Marvel movie: really low. There aren’t really any sexual jokes, any intimate scenes or even any sexual connotations. One thing that is missing, however, that every other Marvel movie for all time has made sure to jam in there in the obligatory shirtless male superhero moment.

I actually appreciated the filmmakers kept the focus on Carol Danvers and her abilities and personality and not her body. Her suit is tasteful, and her wardrobe fits the '90s era but isn’t exploitative. Sexuality might actually be a little less in “Captain Marvel” than in most other Marvel films.

Language

I can’t really recall any harsh or crude language. Some swear words are sprinkled throughout, but nothing out of the ordinary for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There isn’t as much language as in Marvel films like “Ant-Man” or “Guardians of the Galaxy." It's more on par with the likes of “Black Panther” and “Captain America.”

Violence

As always with Marvel movies, this is where “Captain Marvel” really earns its rating.

There are fight scenes, killings, explosions and mayhem through pretty much the entire film. There is nothing terribly graphic, but there is a lot of fighting and hints at genocide and war. Blood is minimal and most that is shown is blue from an alien life form.

I wouldn’t say “Captain Marvel” is any more violent than most of the Marvel movies we have today.

Frightening themes

There are some adult themes going on in “Captain Marvel,” including a war against a specific people and trying to kill them all in what is essentially genocide may be the most disturbing.

Just be aware that some conversations and questions from your kids may crop up from some of the adult themes in the film.

Conclusion

Overall “Captain Marvel” is much like its peers when it comes content. If your kids have handled the “Avengers” movies or “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” then this one shouldn’t be too bad.

“Captain Marvel” is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action and violence, and brief suggestive language.
