SALT LAKE CITY — If you’re a resident of Utah, you can buy tickets to Sundance Film Festival screenings Thursday, five days before everyone else.

The Sundance Locals' Sale will be open online only Thursday, from noon to 8 p.m., according to the festival’s website.

The festival starts Jan. 24 and run through Feb. 3 in Park City, Salt Lake City and at the Sundance Mountain Resort.

Local's tickets cost $25 each for screenings, and you can purchase a maximum of 20 tickets, limited to four per screening, according to the website. There is also a $2 handling fee per ticket you purchase. You’ll be able to pick the tickets up starting Saturday.

When you pick up your tickets, you must be able to prove your Utah residency with a driver’s license or ID — there are no refunds if you can’t prove you’re a local.

There are three festival box offices you can visit to pick up your tickets: at 136 Heber Ave. in Park City; at Trolley Square, 700 E. 500 South, in Salt Lake City; and at the Sundance Mountain Resort in Provo Canyon.

The box offices will be open for locals' ticket pickup only from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The ticket offices will be closed Jan. 20 and 21. See full details about operating hours for the box offices at sundance.org/festivals/sundance-film-festival/get-tickets.

For non-locals, public ticket sales open on Jan. 22 and will continue until the end of the festival. The tickets cost $25 per screening, and tickets to kids' screenings are $10.

People purchasing those tickets can pick them up at the box offices starting Jan. 22.

If you miss out on advanced tickets, a limited number of tickets will be available at the box offices and online starting two hours before each screening starts.

You can also take your chances during the festival with the Sundance eWaitlist feature. Starting two hours before a screening, visit ewaitlist.sundance.org and check in. You’ll be assigned a waitlist number.

After that, arrive at the theater at least 30 minutes early where the screening is scheduled. You’ll line up according to your number, and Sundance volunteers will fill in any empty seats in the theater with people from the eWaitlist.

If you get in, eWaitlist tickets are $20 or $10 for kids' films. Only cash is accepted.
