OGDEN — Jay Hill's stay in the first head coaching job of his career got a little bit longer Wednesday.

The fourth-year head coach received a two-year extension to his contract at Weber State, the Wildcats announced Wednesday afternoon before traveling to their Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinal at top-ranked and undefeated James Madison (5 p.m. MT Friday, ESPN2).

The new deal keeps Hill employed at Weber State through the 2023 season.

"I'm so excited about our football program and the direction we are heading," Hill said in a statement from the school. "The Weber State administration has been dedicated to helping us get to where we all wanted to be and their support has been awesome. I am so happy for the players, coaches and the Weber State community and I'm thrilled to build on what we've accomplished."

Hill has already led the Wildcats (11-2) to their best season in program history and first-ever berth in the FCS quarterfinals. In four seasons in Ogden, the former Utah assistant coach is 26-22 overall, with a 20-12 record in Big Sky play.

The 42-year-old coach has the best winning percentage in conference games in school history and ranks second all-time in overall winning percentage.

The local community has also embraced Hill, a Lehi native who played defensive back at Ricks College and Utah, and his family during personally difficult times.

After going 2-10 in his first season, Hill led the Wildcats to three-straight winning seasons, a 24-12 overall record, a Big Sky championship and two FCS playoff berths. He's also led the only road team to win at rival Southern Utah in the past three seasons.

"It's fun to be a part of this team, to have the unity that we have, and to keep moving forward," Weber State quarterback Stefan Cantwell said. "It's a great time to be a Weber State Wildcat."

The new contract adds two seasons to an extension completed in January.

"Jay has done an incredible job in his four seasons at Weber State and is a proven commodity," athletic director Jerry Bovee said. "Extending him to a six-year contract will continue to provide stability in our program and I'm excited to work with coach Hill on continuing to build Wildcat football."
