Weber State football opens fall camp next week

The Weber State football team will open fall camp for the 2013 season next week. Practice sessions will begin Tuesday, Aug. 6, the first of 15 scheduled practice sessions over the first two weeks of camp. Per NCAA requirements, the first two practice days are helmet-only practices. Practice sessions will be at Stewart Stadium or the WSU practice field and are open to the public and media.

MEDIA DAY AUGUST 5

Prior to beginning the fall camp Weber State will hold the annual Football Media Day on Monday, Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. on the third floor of the Stewart Stadium SkySuites. Head coach Jody Sears and select returning players will be available to meet with the media.

FALL CAMP PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Below is a tentative practice schedule. Times are always subject to change. Players and coaches will be available before and after each practice session. Practice sessions will be at Stewart Stadium or the WSU practice field and are open to the public and media. Please contact the WSU Athletic Communications Office for more information and for interview requests for WSU players or coaches.

2013 SCHEDULE

The Wildcats will kickoff the 2013 season at home when they host Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Stewart Stadium. It will mark the first time they ‘Cats have opened the season at home in five years. Following the home opener the ‘Cats will hit the road for three-straight games playing at Utah (Sept. 7), Utah State (Sept. 14) and McNeese State (Sept. 21). The Big Sky opener will be Sept. 28 when the Wildcats host Sacramento State, in a game that will also be the annual Homecoming game. WSU will also host Montana State, Southern Utah and Idaho State at home this season. Big Sky road games will be Eastern Washington, Cal Poly, Portland State and Montana. WSU will not play North Dakota, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado or UC Davis this season. Weber State was picked 11th by the coaches and 12th by the media in the Big Sky preseason polls. Montana State was picked to as the preseason favorite in both polls, followed by Eastern Washington, Montana and Cal Poly. Weber State returns 36 lettermen and 15 starters off last year's team.

COACHING STAFF CHANGES Head coach Jody Sears returns for his second season at the helm of the Wildcats. New assistant coach Robin Pflugrad takes over as offensive coordinator after spending two seasons as the head coach at Montana. Eric Lewis returns for his second season at WSU and this year will take over the reins as the defensive coordinator this season. Steve Morton was elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach and will also coach the offensive line.

ANTHONY MORALES EARNS PRESEASON HONORS

WSU senior linebacker Anthony Morales has been named to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference team. Morales, a native of Edmond, Okla., earned second team Big Sky All-Conference honors last season for the Wildcats. He led the Big Sky and finished third in the nation in tackles at 12.0 per game and averaged 13.9 tackles per game in Big Sky games. Morales appeared in nine games for the Wildcats and totaled 108 tackles on the season with 48 unassisted and 60 assisted. He also had 9.5 tackles for loss and had double figures in tackles in six of the seven conference games he played, including a career-high 23 tackles against Montana, which ranks as the sixth most in Weber State history. He has served as one of the WSU team captains in each of the past two years. He has played in 30 career games at Weber State and has recorded 242 career tackles, just outside of the WSU all-time top 10 list.

WILDCAT FAN FEST SET FOR AUG. 24

Following fall camp Weber State will host the annual Wildcat Fan Fest, set for Saturday, Aug. 24 at Stewart Stadium. Coach Sears will address Wildcat fans before the team practices with just one week remaining prior to the season opener. More information on the Fan Fest will be available at WeberStateSports.com.
