THE ZOOM CALL — These past few months we’ve become well acquainted with Zoom, home to everything from friendly video chats to essential work and school meetings. The longer quarantine continues, the worse everyone’s Zoom outfits get. Honestly, meetings are lucky not to get button-up shirts and below-the-screen boxers at this point. Fear of another aftershock mid-call is half the reason I still think pants are essential right now.
However, in contrast to the lazy wardrobe choices of the self-quarantined masses, a man from Syracuse named Layne Sanders has arisen to show us all how it’s done in this video.
There’s a wide variety of charming costumes to choose from: Dwight Schrute of "The Office" glory, a hunter from the classic video game "Duck Hunt," a Jazz fan for our sports-lovers, Superman, a secret service agent, Indiana Jones, and the list goes on and on! Notice the usage of theme-setting backgrounds that complete each costume to wonderful effectiveness. The accompanying soundtrack is also a nice touch.
Sanders is brimming over with style and fun in his Zoom outfits, and it serves as a humble reminder to all of us that less-than-ideal circumstances can be a canvas for creativity. While not all of us may be able to rise to his level (though I would encourage those who want to try), it’s a good lesson to try and make the most of ourselves right now. At the very least, I think this motivated me to put on jeans once a week and see sunlight. But even barring that, this video is a good smile and laugh.
