THE FLOOR — Self-care can be hard. It doesn’t matter how good it is for your well-being; sometimes it’s a total chore.

I love wearing clean clothes, but folding laundry can quickly devolve into bad origami. The feeling of freshly-washed hair is immaculate and attractive, but losing sleep to take a shower is arguably one of life’s greatest travesties. And let’s not even get started on exercise.

I understand that everyone should be hygienic, and I’m generally happy to oblige this social norm. But on occasion, I’m allowed to be a drama queen.

I’m happy that this pup agrees with me.

Nail trimming is a necessary and healthy part of a dog’s life, preventing their claws from becoming overgrown and possibly hurting them. However, that doesn’t make it an enjoyable process, and this dog knows it.

When the clippers emerge, she looks into the camera as if she’s on an episode of "The Office."

“No!” she seems to say to her owner stretches out a hand, respectfully asking for her paw, “I will not go gently into that good night! I will not surrender!” But then the dog's owner grabs her, and she’s resigned to her fate.

However, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve an Academy Award for her performance. Her head draws back and her eyes grow wide as if the process was a salvo of bullets to the chest.

She’s hit! Oh no! The imaginary blood gushes everywhere as she falls to the floor. Legs in the air, belly exposed, and the distasteful-but-important clipping continues.

That’s the face of surrender.

Much like this dog, I hope that we can endure the unsavory but necessary chores of life and allow ourselves to be intermittent drama queens.
