THE ROAD — When travelling to a different country, it’s important to remember your culture and laws don’t apply.

This is never more immediately apparent than on the roads. Sure, the signage and road paint are different and may take a hot minute to figure out. But then there’s “road culture” that dictates how people let you into traffic, what honking a horn actually means, and unspoken taboos that aren’t exactly breaking the law.

It may be a bit nerve racking to figure out a foreign road, yet it’s important for everyone’s safety.

However, there are some things in foreign (and domestic) traffic that you can never quite prepare for. And it’s usually the kind of thing that makes you realize that traffic laws exist for a reason, and sometimes that reason is one person.

Now, I can’t say if this is the person that will be a catalyst for a law in Dhaka, Bangladesh, but I can say this is the kind of distracted driving that has that potential.

In the video, you’ll see two men on a scooter. The man on the back is busy balancing his luggage in both hands — not ideal, but not the worst. Instead it’s the driver that will make a “tsk” fly right outta your mouth.

As you saw, the driver is navigating traffic while balancing a soccer ball on his head. To his credit, it’s almost like wearing a helmet while being about the farthest thing from wearing a helmet.

Stay smart and safe out there, y’all.
