THE FRONT LAWN — When I was a kid, I played outside on the streets of northern New Jersey, moving out of the way anytime a car would approach. My friends and I would play on the sidewalk, too.

One place we wouldn’t play on is on grass. Why? Because where I grew up at, it was all apartment buildings, streets and commercial buildings (concrete jungle, is you will). The only time we’d see grass is when we’d go to the local park or when we’d go to Central Park across the river in New York City.

For those not familiar with the plant (it’s technically that), grass and stepping on it for the first time can feel a bit different than what you’re used to. For one grandmother, helping her grandson discover the feeling of grass was a bit funny and cute.

In this video, we see a grandma walking on a front lawn and holding her grandson. It’s a bright sunny day and, for the first time, the grandson will feel grass.

"My mother-in-law was introducing my 5-month-old son to grass for the first time and it was all a bit much for him,” the dad said via the video’s description.

As grandma lowers the boy, he begins to kick, as he recognizes he’s being lowered to this weird looking green stuff.

“Oh, it’s OK,” grandma says, as you can hear a few relatives laugh in the background.

Grandma tries to comfort the baby, as she kneels down to touch the grass, showing her grandson that there’s nothing to fear. The grandson stays calm. Finally, grandma lowers her grandson and for the first time in his life, the boy’s feet touch grass.

His reaction: meh, don’t like it.

The baby cries and grandma rolls back and comforts her grandson. Near the end of the video, grandma moves her grandson to face her and the baby stops crying.

Don’t worry, grandma. While his first time feeling grass didn’t go well, as he grows up, the “future foodie” (did you see his cute bib?) will love grass and will play on it for many years.

As you for, little guy, hang in there. Grass can be scary, but you’re a little champion! Soon enough, you’ll be running all over that grass, scoring goals, catching baseballs and, more than likely, mowing it.

You can thank dad for the grass mowing.
