THE PERCH — When you think of a talking parrot, I bet that only one phrase comes to mind: "Polly want a cracker."

Well, sometimes a cracker just won’t cut it for Polly. Sometimes Polly needs just a little bit more.

Enter this sweet little video from Instagram user The Famjam Flock. The clip features two Indian ringneck parrots who are having a serious conversation about kisses.

If you’re like me, at first the “noises” the birds are marking sound more like "Star Wars" droids arguing than any actual words. They would certainly give R2-D2 a run for his money when it comes to grumpy chirps and bleats. But if you listen carefully, you’ll hear words and phrases such as “Gabriel,” “Kisses,” “I love you,” and “What you doing?”

The blue one on the right is named Gabriel, which we know because the green parrot on the left, Fabio, says, “Gabriel,” to get his attention and then asks for kisses.

But it turns out Gabriel is not exactly feeling the whole kissing thing at the moment. Instead, he’s feeling his love for the couch and kisses that instead. Which, of course, is way understandable because that’s where you sit when you watch TV. (I also love the couch.)

Each couch kiss means Fabio gives Gabe a neck kiss, which just ruffles Gabe’s feathers. (Self high-five for my awesome word play!) Gabe then lets out an annoyed squawk, causing a few chirrups from both birds. However, Fabio will not be deterred, and the whole kisses-no-kisses loop starts all over again.

It’s sweet and funny even though (in at least one person’s opinion taken in a survey at my house) birds are a little bit scary because they have cold dead eyes like a shark.

You can see more from Gabriel, Fabio and six other birds that live in the same house on their Instagram.
