THE MOUNTAINS — An avalanche is an awe-inspiring thing to watch — the way it moves, the power behind it and the fluidity of its destruction.
But avalanches are not something to mess around with or tempt. They have caused far too many tragedies to be taken lightly. No doubt many of us are curious to see their awesome power firsthand, but it's not a good idea to tempt fate.
And now we have this video so we can watch the experience of standing against an avalanche and living to tell the tale.
This video is all in Russian and I don't speak it (I'm sure someone will fill us in on the comment boards), but what I've been able to find is that this was a film crew for the show "My Planet." The crew was filming and caught this avalanche on camera. At first they seem awestricken by the beauty, then a little nervous about the speed and encroaching snow, then scared at the oncoming wave of white and then relief they were still alive and well.

Millennials, these kids are not here for our food choices.Apparently, much of what looks like tons and tons of snow is actually a cloud from the slide winding down, but it still looks intense. But the crew is obviously more educated on these events than I am because they seem to be fairly nonchalant and good-humored about the whole thing. I, on the other hand, would have been screaming and running for my life.
Again, this video is incredible to watch, but even if you know or think you know it's just a cloud, please don't try this. Let's be safe and enjoy watching nature like this on a screen.
