SALT LAKE CITY -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the site for its new temple to be built in Meridian, Idaho.
The facility will be constructed at 7345 N. Linder Road.
A news release from the church quoted Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd saying, "Meridian has a large faith community which plays an important role in keeping a strong focus on our families. The announcement from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to build their newest temple in Meridian is welcomed and we will do our part to ensure their needs are met."
Once construction of the new temple begins it is expected to take approximately two years to complete.
The Meridian Temple was announced at a General Conference in April 2011. It will be the fifth in Idaho. Other temples are in Boise (currently closed for remodeling), Twin Falls, Idaho Falls and Rexburg.
The church has 166 temples in operation, announced or under construction across the globe.
"We feel this new temple will be a great asset not only to members of the Church but also to the people of the surrounding community, who will benefit from the peace and beauty a temple brings." said Craig Rasmussen, Idaho spokesman for the Church, in a release.
