COUNTY KILDARE, Ireland — A healthy 4-month-old baby who was hidden on the initial ultrasound is being called a miracle after she survived the miscarriage of her twin and two abortion pills.
Mom of two Michelle Hui, 31, was six weeks pregnant when she had a miscarriage and told the Daily Mirror that she was devastated.
“The miscarriage and abortion were absolutely horrific,” she said. “The 10 days between the miscarriage and going back to the hospital were just a blur.”
Hui was told to take two abortion pills to clear out her uterus so she didn't get an infection. Abortion pills are commonly used after miscarriages to clean out the womb and are less invasive but just as effective as surgery, WebMd reports.
When Hui went back to the hospital to get some blood clots removed, she discovered a shocking surprise.
“The doctor went out and came back in with a more senior doctor and he did the scan again and he said, ‘You are not going to believe it, we’ve got a heartbeat’ ” Hui told the Daily Mirror. “It was the best feeling ever.”
Hui went on to have a healthy pregnancy and delivery. Doctors are dumbfounded baby Megan survived the abortion pills, which cause the uterus to contract and expel its contents, the Daily Mail reported. Katherine Hales, a spokesman from the Association of Radical Midwives, told the Daily Mail it was "an extraordinary case.”
"I have never heard of this happening," Hales told the Daily Mail. "I can’t think of a medical reason for it to happen — it is just luck."
