DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A day after announcing major job cuts, magazine publisher Meredith Corp. said it plans a $21 million remodel of its corporate headquarters in Iowa to accommodate 41 jobs it's transferring from New York.

The project announced Thursday comes as the company merges with Time Inc., which Meredith bought for $1.8 billion in January.

Meredith laid off 200 workers on Wednesday and announced it would eliminate another 1,000 jobs over the next 10 months under a plan to save up to $500 million by merging operations.

Last month, the company announced 600 jobs would be eliminated in a Time subscription fulfillment center in Tampa, Florida.

The Des Moines-based company plans to seek $460,000 in tax incentives for its remodel project from the Iowa Economic Development Board. Documents indicate the company plans to start the three-year project in April.
