KANE COUNTY — Confusion arose after several agencies assisted in a truck accident that injured 14 people in the Short Creek community.

St. George News reported the accident occurred on June 9 around 4 p.m. on Sand Dunes Road near Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. The occupants of a double-cab, long bed GM pickup truck with racks included the driver, a passenger and 12 females riding in the bed of the truck. All of the occupants sustained injuries when the truck rolled.

One woman was taken to the hospital by Life Flight to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George due to her injuries, nine were transported to Kane County Hospital in Kanab and four were transported to DRMC.

Several agencies reported to the scene: Colorado City Fire Department; Kane County Ambulance; Intermountain Healthcare Life Flight; Kane County Sheriff’s Office; Utah Highway Patrol; Kanab City Fire Department; and Utah Department of Natural Resources.

Because of the number of agencies, the St. George News reported difficulties in obtaining information.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes park officials directed questions to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, and it said the Utah Highway Patrol handled the situation. UHP Sgt. Jake Cox told the St. George News that the Kane County Sheriff’s Office was in charge.

After the St. George News submitted official requests for information, the Colorado City Fire Department was able to provide the information to the news outlet.
