SANDY — Two men were arrested during the investigation of an armed home invasion in Sandy that took place early Thursday.
The suspects were identified as Kenneth Colton Foote, 21, and Andrew Perry Russell, 20.
Foote was arrested Friday at his place of employment. Russell was arrested Saturday at a Midvale residence. Both were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, impersonating a police officer and theft.
The incident that led to their arrest began about 12:30 a.m. when a resident of an apartment at 745 E. Lazon Drive (9140 South) heard a knock at the door. The resident asked who was at the door and the individuals outside identified themselves as police, according to Sandy Police Sgt. Jon Arnold.
The resident looked through the peephole, but a flashlight shining through the other side kept him from seeing who was there. As he started unlocking the door, the men outside kicked it in and entered the house. The resident told police they had bandana-style masks pulled over their noses as well as hats on their heads; only their eyes were visible, Arnold said.
One of the intruders was carrying an assault-style rifle and the other had a handgun, according to police.
The two men started yelling at the resident and asking for items. When he wasn't cooperative, they started physically assaulting him, threw him to the ground and bound his hands with zip ties, Arnold said.
The intruders then started going through the residence.
"They were looking for different property items," Arnold said. "They were also looking for some illegal drugs."

The search continued Thursday afternoon for two men dressed as law enforcers wanted in connection with a home invasion robbery.While the two men searched the house, the resident saw the open front door, ran out and began yelling for help. The two intruders then left the apartment and fled.
During the scuffle, a hat was knocked off one of the intruders, and the victim recognized the individual, Arnold said.
Later in the investigation, an employee of an army surplus store recognized the description of what the suspects were wearing and connected it to two individuals who had purchased similar items Wednesday evening. Police were later able to identify the suspects from surveillance footage at the store.
The victim also recognized both men, with whom he was previously acquainted, police said.
A search of court records indicates Foote pleaded guilty in 2013 to possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, theft by receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon. In 2012, he pleaded guilty to burglary and robbery.
