SALT LAKE CITY â Former Utah offensive lineman Jackson Barton will be joining is younger brother in the NFL.
Barton was selected No. 240 overall by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round of the NFL draft Saturday. The 6-foot-7 lineman waited till near the end of the draft to get selected, but he becomes the fifth player from the University of Utah drafted this year.
The Salt Lake City, Utah, native played four seasons at Utah and was a starter his final two seasons, holding up the offensive line. His younger brother was drafted Thursday No. 88 overall by the Seattle Seahawks.
Barton was one of six University of Utah players invited to the NFL Combine in March, where he managed a 5.18 40-yard dash. He is the ninth player drafted by the Colts in the 2019 draft and only the second offensive player. The Colts loaded up on the defensive side of the ball, adding four linebackers and two safeties.
In the NFL, Barton is expected to compete for time at right tackle, which is opposite where he played at Utah the last two seasons. Barton, though, is a versatile tackle and can move around on the offensive line.
