Sheriff's spokesman Spencer Cannon says a deputy was looking for the suspect, who fled on foot when he was found.
According to Cannon, the suspect presented a "deadly" threat and the deputy fired his weapon.
The 33-year-old suspect was shot at least once.
He was airlifted to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
The deputy was not injured.
Cannon did not identify the nature of the call that drew the deputy there.
Cannon says he was known to law enforcement and had multiple drug- and traffic-related arrest warrants.
