ATLANTA (AP) — An Ebola survivor says he's in Atlanta to donate blood to an American patient.
British nurse William Pooley was reached at his Atlanta hotel Thursday night and said he was in the country to donate blood to a patient being treated at Emory University Hospital. Pooley contracted Ebola while he was working in Sierra Leone.
Pooley and hospital officials have declined to identify the American patient or detail his condition.
Some patients have been given Ebola survivors' blood in an experimental approach that some scientists think can help people fight off the virus.
The United Nation's World Health Organization reports that the disease is believed to have sickened more than 5,300 people, and has killed more than 2,600.
