SALT LAKE CITY -- Police officers made 16 arrests in a Monday night vice sting -- 13 customers and three prostitutes.
The Salt Lake City Police Vice Squad, assisted by another special unit and patrol officers, carries out similar operations "irregularly," Salt Lake City police detective Dennis McGowan said. Officers vary the days, times and target areas.
"We try to keep these people off-balance," he said. "They don't know when and where we are going to be."
This particular sting targeted the areas of North Temple, between 700 West to about 2000 West; and State Street, Major Street and Main Street from 900 South to 2100 South. Plain clothes officers in unmarked vehicles locate and arrest perpetrators on the street.
