CEDAR CITY — The Midway Face Scenic Enhancement project by the U.S. Forest Service is set to begin Friday, involving the removal of dead spruce via helicopter and tractors.

Snowmobilers and cross-country skiers recreating on the east end of Midway Valley along Highway 14 could be impacted, but safety signage has been installed warning of the logging activities. Snow fencing will also be placed along the upper banks of a new snow road to accommodate the tractor traffic. The snow road is approximately 300 feet long and 20 feet wide, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

"Snowmobilers and cross-country skiers need to be aware and use caution when near the logging project area," said Veronica Magnuson, Cedar City district ranger.

The project may halt temporarily due to seasonal snowstorms and stop in the wet months of spring. It set to resume when dry conditions resume in the summer months.
