RIVERDALE, Weber County — A man wanted in connection with a home burglary led officers on a chase along I-15 and I-84 in Weber County before being taken into custody Monday morning, officials from the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Around 9:15 a.m. a Utah Highway Patrol trooper noticed a blue BMW matching the description of a car wanted in connection with a home burglary in the Taylor area according to UHP Sgt. John Ely.

The BMW entered southbound I-15 at 21st Street, and troopers chased it at speeds of 50 to 60 mph along the freeway and onto I-84, Ely said. The BMW exited the freeway at the Toll Road, and then returned to I-15.

The driver, identified by troopers as Jed McMillan of Layton, stopped his vehicle, got out, started yelling and screaming,” Ely said. He also shouted at police to shoot him, according to Ely.

McMillan then got back into the BMW, traveled across the freeway median and continued eastbound in the westbound lanes. Ely said troopers from Davis and Weber counties, and the Weber County Sheriff's Office worked together to stop McMillan as he was driving into traffic.

"I had one of the Davis troopers come and pin him in, (and) two Weber County sheriff's (deputies) were also on scene," Ely said.

McMillan got out of his car once again as officers closed in on his vehicle, he said. When McMillan tried to return to his vehicle, a trooper deployed his Taser and ended the pursuit, Ely said.

Police say McMillan may have been under the influence of narcotics at the time of the chase. McMillan was reportedly treated for injuries from the Taser before the Weber County Sheriff's Office took him into custody in connection with the home burglary.

Ely said UHP plans to follow up with McMillan on potential charges for fleeing police.

Traffic slowdown efforts were employed, he said, and eastbound traffic coming from I-15 to I-84 was stopped during the pursuit.
