MERSEYSIDE, England — An English paramedic who formerly sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is wowing the internet with his impressive operatic vocals after his coworker filmed him singing “Nessun Dorma.”
Lewis Quinn was a first tenor in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for several years starting in 2012, according to Mormon Tabernacle Choir executive assistant Julie Rohde.
Quinn studied opera in the United States for 12 years, but went back to England, where he is working as an emergency medical technician. When his colleagues learned of his talent, they asked him to sing. On Oct. 13, the musical paramedic sang “Nessun Dorma” outside the Southport Community Fire and Ambulance Station, according to the Daily Mail.
The video was posted to Facebook Oct. 16, and as of Thursday afternoon, has more than 48,000 views.
“I had a bit of a life before I went into the ambulance service and my colleagues ask me to sing to show off my skills,” Quinn told the Daily Mail. “I've sang for a few colleagues, but mostly that has been at 2 or 3 a.m. when we're a bit worse for wear.” The paramedic said he sings for the patients who are in the back of the ambulance, those with dementia especially, the Daily Mail reported.
“I think an ambulance guy with a really classical voice is just a bit of a novelty for people,” Quinn told The Echo. “When I moved back to England two years ago, I initially got this job just to tread water, but I fell in love with it. My personality doesn’t suit pursuing a career in music, for that you have to be very egotistical.”
