LOS ANGELES — Matt Damon is a prankster.

At least that’s what we’ve gathered from a new video released by Omaze where the “Jason Bourne” actor used a strategically dropped cellphone to both promote his movie and a nonprofit website, while having a little fun with strangers, of course.

Damon — who came on the scene in a big way when he co-wrote and starred in 1997’s “Good Will Hunting” — is on the other end of a phone call for the sake of the prank. People in a Los Angeles shopping area were handed a cellphone by a mysterious actor and told to answer. Damon used his best Bourne voice to try to get the people playing along to do his bidding.

The four people who stayed on the phone long enough did some silly things like telling a couple their baby is cute and buying a hot dog. The carrot at the end of the ridiculous ruse was not only meeting Damon (in a sketchy, interrogation-type room), but getting tickets to go to the Las Vegas premiere of “Jason Bourne.”

Anyone who wants a similar chance won’t have to answer an enigmatic phone call. Rather, entrants can pay $10 on Omaze and possibly get to be Damon’s guest at the Vegas premiere, including a flight, 4-star hotel stay and red carpet event. The money will go toward Water.org, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing clean water to developing countries.

“Jason Bourne” will be the fourth movie in which Damon will portray a CIA assassin inflicted with crippling memory loss. The summer flick will be released on July 29.
