MURRAY — A short high-speed chase ended with a crash and an arrest in Murray early Wednesday morning, but while police were investigating, they also made two unrelated arrests for child abuse and drug possession.
Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, a Unified Police Metro Gang Unit detective attempted to stop a car driving recklessly. The car allegedly turned off its lights, ran a red light and sped onto I-15 at 3300 South at 100 miles per hour.
The chase was called off, but then the detective found the car crashed and abandoned at the next exit. As officers responded they found the driver in a nearby hotel parking lot. Police arrested Jeffery De La Cruz, who they said was "obviously intoxicated."
While police were arresting the driver, they saw a woman making a run for it. She was not involved in the chase but it turns out she was wanted for drug possession and got spooked by the police. She's now in custody.
During these arrests, police recognized a man walking out of the hotel as a suspect in a child abuse case and arrested him as well.
Police have not yet released the name of the extra two people who were arrested.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
